Thank you so much for using your time to read on, This newsletter is for you! Please let me know how I can help make this more useful, more enjoyable, and more beneficial! I so enjoy the pleasure of writing and even more so the pleasure of sharing! In this issue, I start with a brief description of how to live a presupposition with the article “There Is No Failure, Only Feedback”, followed by the article “Living on Purpose” Learn more about how to live the life you truly want! See the newest definitions added and please review the list of trainings and other local events at the end of the newsletter. Stop and notice the free tele-class on “Living Your Dreams” starting July 8th! This is designed for anyone who wants to focus more on living the life they truly want. If at any time you choose to decline this or future newsletters, simply respond by emailing me with the topic line- “unsubscribe”. Please email with any and all comments and suggestions at jim@midwestnlp.com. Also, if you desire to include an article, comments or other NLP training information, please let me know! This is our world, lets all be a part of it! There is no Failure, Only Feedback Imagine the possibility of knowing that in every situation there is value: learning, emotional growth, insight, fun, etc…. Now, MAKE IT SO!!! Too many people beat themselves up…giving themselves a hard time about “what they should have done”, “what could’ve happened”, “only if”… “I wish”… etc…AAHHHHH!!!! It’s enough to drive someone crazy! How many of you relate to the “Failure Gremlin” who reminds you of the should’s or even warns you of your likely failure again… The list goes on. The NLP presupposition “There is no failure only feedback” addresses this. If in every so-called failure we found the inherent value, how does that shift your thinking? How does that shift your feelings? Hear me now… All failure is feedback, without the remorse, without the grief, without the self be-rating…. All failure is feedback; feedback with added joy, excitement, wonder, curiosity and more! How can this be? Because every single instance of what you used to refer to as failure is an opportunity… an opportunity for you to learn, to improve, to change, to shift...or in coaching terms, to forward ourselves. Now, this can happen and I have had many a client or workshop participant tell me how wonderful it is to see the world through these rose colored glasses! (Isn’t that another gremlin? That we’re not supposed to look at the world through those wonderful rose colored glasses?) I LOVE MY ROSE COLORED GLASSES!” Imagine…. possibility after possibility, enjoying each and every moment, everyday! Many people I know are very caught up into “examining failure”… This type of medical model mentality begins in grade school or before. Remember when you got your papers back, with the red check marks!? The teachers were consistently reminding their students about what they did wrong…not what they did right! Or “therapists” as they are so often called who focus on what is “wrong”, instead of what the clients wants! Is it really important to focus valuable time and energy on insight into why or how something is “wrong” or not working? Or instead focus on what will work better, what other options to explore? How you want to think, feel and act!? When someone comes to me about feeling depressed, or experiencing stress, certainly examining the pattern and “cause” might be useful in some cases, but more often than not, I am interested in pointing their brain in another direction, like “what do you want?”, or “how do you want to feel?” Or what changes do you need to make in your life so you feel less stress, more peace? Etc… Learn NLP; learn to live see every error, every alleged “failure” as another opportunity for improvement…another possibility… HOW COOL IS THAT? Do it and tell me how it works! visit: www.midwestnlp.com/presuppositions.php Living on Purpose: NLP, Coaching & more #2 What does it mean to live on purpose? To
live intentionally, consciously, doing what we truly want? We do live in a
free country, but are we really free? Are you truly living the life you want?
Are you doing the things you want to, each moment, of each hour of each day?
If so, FANTASTIC and CONGRATULAIONS!
Please write me and tell me how you do it! I live the way I want maybe 80% of the
time… and am moving toward the 100% (or as close to it as I can possible
come!) I so want to know how you are successful. It may be the next strategy that creates
the “nickel drop—AHA” experience for my next client! If
you’re not living the life you truly want, what are you doing? What’s really
important? In Coach talk, this is sometimes referred to as our BIG A Agendas. Franklin Covey refers to them as the “big
rocks” of our life, those things that are most important. What do we live
for? What are we passionate about? Last month I talked about “what you want”,
in specific measurable terms. Results,
getting results are what most people who seek coaching are after. Eliminating self talk, reaching financial
goals, clearing the clutter of their lives. One of my clients recently
described his goal of “Erasing his hard drive and starting over”. Well, taken
metaphorically, I suggested that he simply run a de-fragmentation program,
use what is useful in the places that are most useful; starting first and
foremost with finding out what is most important in his life. This hit home, wholeheartedly he said YES,
lets get started! I
have the quote in the sidebar “Ignore what a man desires and ignore the very
source of his power”. As humans, we
are meaning making beings. We create
meaning, interpret our world and operate on these meanings as if they are
“reality”. In many ways, this is
reality, our reality. And in working
with prospects, clients, customers, even in our closest relationships, what
is important, what drives each of us is what is at the core of who we
are… This is “the stuff of life” that
creates the drive and momentum that pushes and pulls us every day. All
the techniques and methods in the world will fall on deaf ears if we ignore
that which is truly human in all of us… the passion that in many ways is
unique, but that drives us, keeps us getting up every day, working, playing,
striving for…. What is it you are striving for? If this is a question you have running
around in your head, then how will you answer it? Certainly, most coaches,
like me, offer a complimentary coaching session to begin to explore this and
similar questions you may have. I
offer a free discussion group to explore these and similar questions you have
(see free teleclass near end of newsletter!).
Are you living the kind of life you truly want? Are you? Definition: The
Presuppositions The
fundamental presuppositions of NLP form the basis of operating assumptions
from which the attitudes and techniques of NLP are built. They provide both a
framework and an operational base for thinking which create the attitude and
mindset facilitates the effectiveness of NLP. Go to http://www.midwestnlp.com/presuppositions.php
for a full list of the presuppositions. Definition: Meta-Programs
A process by which one sorts through multiple
generalizations simultaneously. As such, Meta Programs control how and when a
person will engage in any set of strategies in a given context. Just as we
all use our physical representational systems to process information (seeing,
hearing, touch, feel, etc…) we also use meta-programs as a filter in our
processing of information as well as how we communicate with others. Knowing another your own and others
“meta-programs” leads to increased ease and effectiveness in your
communication, influence and more. Visit
