In this issue I share with you the power of having regular habits.  A useful tool is the Walk the Talk” tool used in the Coaches Training Institute materials. Do your daily habits reflect what is most important to you? Read the article, make your list and decide for yourself. Submodalities have been referred to as “the difference that makes the difference” in our experience.  I successfully use submodality work in coaching, NLP change work and offer you some ideas of how to use this powerful information in your own life.      The book review is not just for coaches, but for anyone who is interested in being effective with others in any situation. If you are in sales, customer service, management, training, or coaching, “From Coach to Awakener has information you can use immediately to increase your effectiveness. The next book “Getting What You Want” is more than a read, but a step by step guide on how to live the kind of life you truly want. Take me up on my complimentary coaching session offer found in the back of the book and begin putting this information to use for you in creating the life you truly want. Visit www.trulyhumancoaching.com to begin!

Be well,

Walk the Talk: Regular Habits to Change Your Life

“We don’t have to take life the way it comes to us.  By converting our dreams into goals, and our goals into plans, we can design life to come to us the way we want it.  We can live our lives on purpose, instead of by chance.”

               -Dan Zadra

Living on purpose has much to do with taking conscious action each moment of each day.  Many of you who may already act on purpose in many areas of your life.  But are you really living the kind of life you truly want?  How many of you want to grow your business yet do not do at least one or two things each day to gain more prospects or customers? Or, how many people do you know who want to improve their health yet, skip breakfast, eat fast food or do not exercise regularly? What about our other life areas:  personal growth, finances, friends, significant other, our home, your future, your spiritual growth, other life areas?

How satisfied are you?

Living life on purpose means planning, means thinking about what you want, putting it down on paper (or putting the pedal to the metal) and beginning to take action on those things you truly want to do (now this is where the rubber meets the road).  I talk with people everyday who want more out of life, who want to improve their health, grow their business, build more fulfilling relationships, align themselves with what is truly important to them. Through simple suggestions as well as coaching these people are creating the kind of life they want!  There are those who do not, for the simple reason that they do not take action.  They have good intentions, some desire and then choose, that’s right, they choose to act in other ways. (Does the saying about the road to hell being paved with good intentions come to mind?)

Are you ready to take action?

Are you ready to take action? If you’re ready, then go for it? If you’re not sure now, visit my website: www.trulyhumancoaching.com where you will find useful (and free!) assessments that you can take to gauge just where you stand with issues such as living life on purpose, relationships and leadership.

Here is a simple action plan:

If you’re ready, here is a simple action plan: List the primary areas in your life, for example: Career, Personal Growth, Significant Other, Friends/Family, Environment, Fun& Recreation, etc…(please use any other areas that are significant to you!).  Ask yourself, “what do I want to do / achieve / improve on in each of these areas?” Now, list 3-5 things you will do daily to insure you are living the kind of life you truly want.  Review your progress each week and ask yourself, “is this really important to me?” If it is, and you are having a challenge meeting your goals, please call—I can help.

Submodalities: The Difference that Makes the Difference!

Sub-Modalities:
The special sensory qualities perceived by each of the five senses. For example, visual submodalities include color, shape, movement, brightness, depth, etc… auditory submodalities include volume, pitch, tempo, etc…and kinesthetic submodalities include pressure, temperature, location, etc

Submodalities have been referred to as “the bar code” of experience.  Many of you are familiar with representational systems (seeing, hearing, etc…).  Submodalities are the details of our experience within these submodalities.  Let me give you an example.  Recall a pleasant memory.  Some of  you made a picture, some of you heard some words, some of you had a feeling. If you made a picture, where is the location of the picture?  Is it in color or black & white?  How big is the picture? Does it have a frame around it?  For those of you who heard some words or sounds in or about the pleasant experience, from what direction was the noise coming from? Who’s voice was it?  How loud was the voice? How far away?

Now, shift these “details” of experience and notice how your feelings about the experience change.  Make the picture bigger, brighter, full color.  Make the picture into a movie!  Or for the sounds/voice, make the voice/sounds even more soothing!  Turn up the volume just a touch, bring the sound closer and make it a surround sound!

These nuances of experience are the difference that make a difference.  Many of you may have had an annoying voice reminding you to do things, or telling you how you can’t get something done (no, not a real voice from someone  you know, the voice in your head!).  If you are one of these people that hear this (we all have them to some degree), then take that voice, move it away from you about 5 feet…. Now 5 more feet… keep it moving off so it is very quite… and now, change the voice so it is going at 78rpm speed… really fast!  Now, notice the difference this voice has on you and how you feel.  Is it enough of a difference to “make a difference”?  Write and let me know at jim@midwestnlp.com

Be well!

Book Review: From Coach to Awakener

This month I again review a book by Robert Dilts, this time: From Coach to Awakener.  An outstanding overview of the many facets of coaching through the model of coaching tasks that are done and the role of the coach in working with clients with and through these roles.  The coaching roles discussed include: Caretaking & Guiding; Coaching; Teaching; Mentoring; Sponsorship and Awakening.  For those of you familiar with NLP, the roles are akin to the logical levels of experience (Environment, Behavior, Capabilities, Beliefs/Values, Identity and Spirituality). It is a great source of information and various experiential exercises for trainers, coaches, consultants and the layperson as well.

Book Review:
